In a bid to enhance reading culture, acquire knowledge and empowerment, International Pentecostal Holiness Church Nigeria (IPHC) Western Conference Zone has launched a book club to provide a platform for individuals to come together, share ideas, and cultivate a lifelong passion for reading and learning.
The club, Bookish Bunch Reading Club, which started as a group of ladies discussing ethics and healthcare issues and later welcomed male members, has now expanded into a full-fledged book club.

The club president Blessing Ogbeide said, “We have noticed that technology has reduced reading habits in the 21st century. So we aim to revive and sustain reading culture among teenagers, young adults, and older individuals through this because books can transport us to new places, spark imagination, and impart knowledge. So we want to foster a love for reading, starting at our church, IPHC, and reaching far beyond.

Also, as a church-based initiative, we seek to share God’s love and encourage members through book discussions.”

The resource person at the launch, Dr. Francis Anyanwu, said there is no better time to launch the club than now.

“This club is a platform for personal development and growth,” he said. “Reading and studying are essential for success. What you read shapes who you become while neglecting it leads to failure.”

Citing the excellence of African individuals worldwide, “Knowledge resides in Africa, and we aim to debunk harmful misconceptions,” he stressed.

Senior Pastor Joseph Ehimen, the programme seeks to bring on board experienced mentors who have excelled in their fields to guide the youth.

“We want to tap into the potential of the young generation,” Rev. Ehimen said. “Many of them have a lot to offer, but unfortunately, some engage in social vices. As a church, we have a role, along with the government and civil society, to provide guidance and support. We encourage young people to join the club, which will help bring out their innate abilities.”
