Large crowds of civilians in Iran formed human shields around key power plants, as tensions escalated ahead of a high-stakes deadline issued by US President Donald Trump.

According to a video footage shared by Fox News on Tuesday, reportedly just an hour before the ultimatum expired, civilians were locking arms around strategic facilities in a striking display of resistance and anxiety over a possible escalation.

The development followed Iran’s rejection of the latest proposal from the United States, sharply escalating tensions with only hours remaining before the 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (1:00 a.m. WAT) deadline set by Trump on Tuesday.

Over the weekend, the US president issued a stark warning, declaring that Iran’s “entire civilization could be wiped out” if its leadership failed to agree to what he described as a “revolutionary” deal with Washington.

In a post on his Truth Social platform shortly before the deadline, Trump intensified the rhetoric, warning of catastrophic consequences.

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” he wrote.

The statement represented one of the strongest warnings yet from Washington amid worsening relations between the two countries, fueling fears of a potential geopolitical crisis with global implications.

Although specific details of the proposed agreement remained unclear, the ultimatum underscored mounting pressure on Tehran to return to negotiations or face severe consequences.
