Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, has directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to launch intense strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran, accusing Iran of violating a fragile ceasefire agreement.

The order came after the Israeli military reported that its air defence systems detected and responded to missiles allegedly launched from Iran.

The IDF said the missiles triggered alarms across parts of northern Israel, prompting emergency shelter warnings.

Authorities have since allowed residents in those areas to exit shelters, noting that the threat level had subsided.

In a brief but stern statement, Defence Minister Gallant said, “I have instructed the IDF to respond forcefully to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire with intense strikes against regime targets in Tehran.”

While Israel insists that Iranian aggression has broken the terms of the ceasefire, Iran has yet to confirm launching any missiles officially.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, in earlier remarks, maintained that Tehran would only halt its attacks if Israel did the same.

The ambiguity over Iran’s direct involvement has not deterred Israel’s response. The country’s far-right Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, a close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, added wrote in a post on the social media platform X, declaring, “Tehran will shake.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s national ambulance service, Magen David Adom, confirmed there had been no mass casualties saying only reported injury so far was a man hurt while running to take cover during the missile alerts.

Analysts warn that the current tit-for-tat could tip the region into wider conflict if diplomatic channels fail.
