The globally recognized network of young leaders in over 120 countries, Junior Chamber International (JCI), has consistently demonstrated commitment to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cultural exchange since 1915. With over 60 years of existence in Nigerian and 5,000+ active members Alumni Network JCI Nigeria has provided a plethora of opportunities to empower young leaders, develop skills, and make positive impact in communities.
One of the award-winning Local Organizations of JCI has begun 2024 leadership year on a spectacular note. JCI Lekki Royale, a vibrant local organization within the JCI network, shares the broader goals and principles of JCI Nigeria with specific focus on the needs and challenges within her catchment areas in Lagos State – spanning from Lekki down to Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. The organization has a well-defined action framework for development and Growth, and the framework is built on these 4 opportunity areas: Individual Development, Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Action, and International Cooperation. These pillars offer holistic approach to personal and professional growth, empowering Members to tackle local and global challenges.
January 1, 2024 marked the official resumption of newly appointed Board Members – the LEAD Team. Led by Yetunde Odunola Oyeyipo as the 2024 President, the LEAD Team brings a unique blend of skills, experience, and passion, united by a goal to innovate for a better future. Adhering to JCI’s “One-Year to Lead” rule, the LEAD Team has expressed commitment to creating positive change and empowering JCI Lekki Royale Members to become Leaders, Educators, Advocates, and Diversity Champions in 2024.
Board Members of the LEAD Team were inducted during the 2023 Annual Convention & Investiture Dinner held at the unique Swiss International The Vistana Hotel on 25 November 2023. Along with the President, these Executive Council Members will coordinate activities in JCI Lekki Royale; Victor Enabudoso – Immediate Past President, Ruhamah Ifere – Vice President, External Affairs), Gloria Nwajei – Vice President, Internal Affairs, Bassey-BASSEY – Secretary General/Editor-in-Chief, Philip Andrew Bethel (General Legal Counsel), and Daisy Iloba – Treasurer.
Additionally, eight (8) Directors will manage the affairs of the various Directorates in ensuring balanced development for both the chapter and her Members; Doyinsola Omotosho – Director, Business & Partnership, Odunola Abayomi – Director, Conferences & Conventions, Louisa Orajekwe – Director, Media & Communications, Azeez Olatunde Muyibi – Director, Meetings & Protocols, Dr Hassan Ismail – Director, Membership Services, Nimota Gbaja-Jimoh – Director, Projects & Programs, Yewande Orekoya – Director, Skills & Development, and Zainab Ige – Director, Socials & Welfare.
In a recent newsletter, the President reflected on the first week in office and shared the exciting plans for the month. “It has really been an exciting one filled with a whirlwind of emotions. Our Day 1 had Board Members energized to hit the ground running. Nevertheless, this is only the beginning as we have just completed the first lap out of 52 laps.”, the President wrote. In the newsletter, the President outlined key activities for the month of January, which include hosting of the 2024 Officers’ Training School (OTS) and First General Assembly of JCI Lekki Royale. She also stated that Members will be assigned to Directorates, thus providing them with opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience in contributing to positive change and honing their leadership skills.
Amongst other plans for 2024, JCI Lekki Royale will commence recruitment of Members and information will be shared on her media pages (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn). The Chapter’s website is set to be unveiled in the first quarter, serving as a hub for skills development resources, recognition of active citizens, and networking platform for young leaders. In line with attracting, retaining, and engaging quality Members, Dr Hassan Ismail – the Director of Membership Services emphasized the commitment of JCI Lekki Royale to fostering a thriving community where individuals can develop their skills, make positive impact, and contribute to a better future. He stated that, “Globally, JCI is at the forefront of leadership and entrepreneurship development among the youth. Here at JCI Lekki Royale, we have made leadership development our culture as we groom the next generation of visionary leaders – which include professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, managers, directors, and investors aged 18 to 40. I feel honored to be part of this drive.”
Indeed, JCI Lekki Royale is poised for a year of significant growth. With a dedicated Board and a focus on action, JCI Lekki Royale is set to create positive impact in 2024 and beyond. The local organisation also looks forward to welcoming other young leaders committed to creating positive change in communities, particularly VGC, Ajah, Ogombo, Sangotedo, Awoyaya, Eleko, Epe, and Ibeju Lekki.
It is undeniable that the unwavering commitment of JCI Lekki Royale Members is a testament to the great foundation built by the Charter President – JCIN Ambassador Chinelo Anwunah, and past Board of Directors and Founder of the Local Organization – JCI Senator Prisca Attah.
