Police operatives from the Ogun State Police Command have arrested controversial musician, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.
The arrest followed the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum given to the street singer to turn himself in after his refusal to honour earlier Police invitations.
Recall that earlier on Tuesday, Policemen from Ogun State Command had stormed the singer’s private business premises to effect his arrest over a petition against him by an upcoming singer but Portable resisted arrest and created a scene which has now gone viral on the social media.
The musician was heard shouting in Yoruba language that he cannot be arrested as a celebrity, ‘Federal Government’s Liability’ and someone who worked for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the electioneering campaigns.
Portable also claimed that an internet fraudster had instigated the Police to arrest his staff members “for no reason.”
But, the Police noted that it acted on a petition against the singer. The cops condemned the Portable’s actions also threatened to prosecute him.
The singer was, therefore, given a 72-hour ultimatum to turn himself in, which elapsed on Friday.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, has confirmed the singer’s arrest and that he is currently cooling his feet at the Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the State capital.
Oyeyemi further said the singer was arrested after refusing five invitations, adding that he will remain in Police custody till Monday when he will be charged to Court.
