Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, is to step down from the role at the end of the season.

Klopp took over as Reds boss in October 2015 and his contract was due to run until 2026.

He led Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years in 2019-20 season, having won the Champions League the previous season.

“I told the club already in November,” the German tactician told the Liverpool website on Friday.

Klopp, a beloved figure at Anfield who transformed the Reds into European giants during his seven-year tenure, cited “running out of energy” as the reason behind his decision.

Having arrived in 2015, the German tactician’s legacy at Liverpool is undeniable. He brought an end to the club’s 30-year wait for a Premier League title in 2020, lifting the coveted trophy for the first time since 1990. Additionally, he secured Champions League glory for the Reds in 2019, solidifying their status as one of Europe’s top footballing forces.

Currently, Liverpool sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, offering Klopp the chance to bow out on a high note with another league title.

In a heartfelt interview posted on Liverpool’s website, Klopp acknowledged the surprise his decision might cause but emphasised his unwavering love for the club and its supporters.

“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time,” he said.

“I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.

“It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now. Obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now.

“I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”

Klopp’s departure marks the end of an era at Liverpool, one defined by thrilling attacking football, relentless intensity, and an unwavering connection with the club’s passionate fanbase.
