The Sokoto State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, on Saturday, upheld the election of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.

The Tribunal dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Saidu Umar, challenging the victory of the APC and its candidate (Ahmed Aliyu) in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the State.

According to the three-man panel of Judges led by Justice Haruna Mshelia, the petitioners failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

LEADERSHIP earlier reported that journalists, who arrived at the court premises as early as 7:00am on Saturday morning, were subjected to strict security checks as the court premises was being manned by heavily armed security personnel making access to the courtroom a very difficult task even as journalists not working for state government media houses were not allowed into the chamber of the Sokoto State High Court complex venue of the Tribunal.

A DSS personnel while addressing journalists at the court said only journalists working for the state owned media and that of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) will be allowed into the court chamber.
