Gunmen suspected to be cultists attacked a popular drinking joint in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, killing four (4) people.
An eyewitness however said ten (10) persons were shot dead during the attack when the gunmen invaded the area in the night and opened fire on customers for about 30 minutes.
The anonymous witness added that apart from the slain customers, unconfirmed number of others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack.
Benue State Police Spokesperson Catherine Anene confirmed the attack. “Yes, the suspected cult attack at Akpehe confirmed. Four persons were killed while others are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”
Anene quoted the new Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Emenari Ifeanyi of warning hoodlums greeting him in such a way to desist from criminality, vowing not to tolerate crime under his watch.
LEADERSHIP reports that the attack occurred hours after CP Ifeanyi assumed office as the police commissioner in the state.
