The Kaduna State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Ahmed Maiyaki as the commissioner for information.
Until his appointment on July 29, Maiyaki, a seasoned media professional, served as the managing director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC).
The motion for his confirmation was moved by Hon. Henry Marah, the member representing Jaba Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismail, the member representing Zaria City Constituency.
Presiding over the plenary, the speaker of the House, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, lauded the nominee’s professional track record in the media space and expressed confidence in his capacity to reposition the state’s information management architecture.
Speaking to journalists after the plenary, Hon. Marah said while confirmation proceedings during plenary may appear brief, nominees undergo rigorous screening at executive sessions to ensure they meet the required standards and to avoid any embarrassment during public sessions.
He noted that Maiyaki’s exemplary service record and integrity at KSMC paved the way for his smooth confirmation.
On legislative support for the newly created Ministry of Information, Hon. Marah, who is the chairman House committee on information, pledged the Assembly’s readiness to fast-track any supplementary budget or executive bills aimed at enabling the ministry to discharge its mandate effectively.
