The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive and sustainable rural development through continued investment in water supply, agriculture, education, healthcare, rural electrification and environmental sustainability.

The Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, stated this on Monday while declaring open the Kano State Rural and Sustainable Community Development Summit organised by the Ministry of Rural and Community Development.

Ibrahim said the administration had prioritised rural water projects to provide communities with clean and safe drinking water, noting that the intervention had improved public health and reduced the burden on women and children who travel long distances in search of water.

He added that the government had introduced agricultural support programmes, including improved seeds, fertilisers, extension services and irrigation projects, to boost food production and strengthen the rural economy.

According to him, the state had also invested in education through the construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of learning materials and recruitment of teachers in underserved communities.

The SSG said healthcare delivery in rural areas had been improved through the upgrade of facilities, supply of equipment, expansion of maternal and child health services and access to essential medicines.

He noted that rural electrification projects and skills acquisition programmes for youths and women were also helping to create jobs and improve livelihoods.
