The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has unveiled a new programme to improve healthcare access for practitioners in the state’s Hausa film industry, popularly known as Kannywood.

The “Kannywood AbbaCare Initiative,” launched under Governor Abba Yusuf’s First Healthcare Development Agenda, was unveiled by KSCHMA Executive Secretary Dr Rahila Aliyu-Muktar during a sensitisation meeting at the Kano State Censorship Board headquarters.

Dr Aliyu-Muktar said the programme recognises Kannywood practitioners’ contributions to public enlightenment, cultural promotion, and social development, and aims to ensure that vulnerable members of the industry are not left behind in accessing quality medical care.

“Kannywood practitioners play a vital role in shaping positive societal values,” she said. “Through this initiative, we are extending healthcare support to members of the industry and ensuring that vulnerable practitioners receive the care and attention they deserve.”

The executive secretary announced the immediate enrollment of eight critically ill Kannywood members under the agency’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) for urgent medical assessment, treatment, and follow-up care.

“No individual should be denied healthcare because of financial constraints,” she said, adding that the move was designed to guarantee timely medical attention for those in need.

Dr Aliyu-Muktar described the initiative as consistent with Governor Yusuf’s broader vision of building an inclusive healthcare system that serves all segments of Kano society.
