The commissioner for solid minerals and natural resources, Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza, disclosed this when he visited a gold market at Batakaye in Kumbotso local government area of the state.

A statement signed by the ministry’s director of public enlightenment, Adamu Dabo, quoted the commissioner as saying that the gold market was built in collaboration with the federal government to serve as a center for gold refining and trading for the northern states.

ā€œKano is strategic and remains a commercial hub for the northern states. Its location would provide a conducive atmosphere for the commodity stakeholders to mine, refine for local patronage and export to the world market directly from Kano,ā€ he said.
The commissioner also said through the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Resources, the ministry would ensure that the multi-million naira market commences operation soon as all the needed facilities and equipment have been put in place.Hamza commended Governor Abba Yusuf for the foresight in establishing the ministry which would reorganise and refocus mining activities and help in the prevention of environmental degradation, pollution, improve revenue generation and provide employment opportunities for the state.

He further reiterated the ministry’s commitment to leave no stone unturned in reaching out to all stakeholders within and outside the country for collaboration and capacity building to achieve the target goals.
