English Actress Kate Winslet is in talks to feature in The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum as the female lead.
The actress who was recently in James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” will join Andy Serkis, who is directing in addition to reprising his part as the creature from the original trilogy. Not much is known about Winslet’s character at the moment.
Filming for the Titanic actress is expected to take place in New Zealand from May to October.
Warner Bros. hasn’t yet confirmed who will appear in the upcoming film, but there are speculations that Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen are returning as Frodo Baggins and Gandalf, respectively.
And while there were also hopes that Viggo Mortensen would return as Aragorn, recent speculation suggests the role will be recast for the new movie.
Peter Jackson, who initially adapted the J. R. R. Tolkien novel for the big screen, is producing “The Hunt for Gollum” with his creative partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
The movie will bring Winslet and Jackson back together again as he directed her in 1994’s “Heavenly Creatures.”
“The Hunt for Gollum” will debut in theatres on Dec. 17, 2027. The main storyline is yet to be known, but it is reportedly set between the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Fellowship of the Ring.”
“The Lord of the Rings” and prequel series “The Hobbit” were main blockbusters, with each trilogy earning about $2.8 billion at the global box office.
