Katsina State governor, Malam Dikko Radda, has approved the sum of N677,572,815 for bursary allowances, academic excellence awards, and special needs scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The approval, announced by the Katsina State Scholarship Board, includes N283,521,639 for bursary allowances to newly admitted students of Katsina origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Others include N15 million for the Katsina State Government Award of Academic Excellence to First-Class graduates and N7 million for the Annual Special Scholarship Programme for students with disabilities.

This latest intervention follows the release of N372,051,176 in September 2024 for continuing students, bringing the total amount approved for the 2024/2025 academic year to N677,572,815.

According to the Board, since Governor Radda assumed office, the state government has disbursed over N2.6 billion in bursaries and scholarships, supporting more than 136,000 students across several academic sessions.

In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Dr Aminu Salisu Tsauri, the approval was described as another demonstration of the governor’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.

“Governor Radda’s administration continues to prioritise human capital development. The Academic Excellence Award promotes hard work, while the Special Needs Scholarship ensures inclusivity for students with disabilities,” Dr Tsauri stated.

The Board also announced that award letters will be distributed at beneficiaries’ respective institutions beginning Tuesday, 28 October 2025, while newly admitted Katsina State students in the Nigerian Law School are expected to report to the Board headquarters from 27–30 October 2025 for administrative processing.

Beyond local support, the Radda administration has also expanded opportunities through foreign scholarship initiatives, sponsoring students from all 34 Local Government Areas to study specialised courses abroad.

These include Artificial Intelligence at Xi’an Shiyou University, China; Bioengineering at Xuzhou University of Technology, China; and Medicine and Surgery at Nahda University, Egypt.

Dr Tsauri commended Governor Radda for making education a central pillar of his administration and thanked members of the Governing Board for their dedication to ensuring transparency in the scholarship process.

“His Excellency’s continued investment in education has restored hope and created opportunities for thousands of Katsina students. This gesture will continue to shape a brighter future for the state,” he added.
