The committee set up to look into the affairs of the Katsina State Institute of Management Technology has identified lack of water and power supply, as well as internet connection as the major problems facing the institution.
The chairman of the committee, Idi Umar, revealed this when he presented the report to the secretary to state government (SSG) Abdullahi Garba Faskari who received it on behalf of the government.
Umar said, “The committee viewed the issues as amazing, especially an ICT training institution of its calibre which operations are digital and electricity-driven has since its inception seven years ago operated without internet services, national grid and poor water supply as well as lack of hostels in the school.
He said, “Our investigations on electricity power provision to the Institute has revealed that despite the state government spending huge amounts of funds to achieve the connection of the institute to the national grid, the National Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has made extensive technical observations citing obstacles and therefore objected to the connection until the observed defects are rectified.
“Our subsequent consultations with a registered power engineer who joined the committee to inspect the facilities at the institute has revealed the existence of an easier option to connect the institute to the national grid taking advantage of the recent construction of a dedicated line facility by the Federal Ministry of Power in a land belonging to the Katsina State government very close to the premises of the institute which has since been energised after NEMSA Certification in 2023,” he said.
He urged the state government to engage a certified power engineer who would make the necessary contacts and procedures in connecting the institute to the new dedicated line.
