The Katsina State Police Command said it has arrested a total number of 1,005 suspects in connection with 853 cases from June to September 2023.

The Command added that a total of 395 cases were being prosecuted in various courts of law in the state.

Parading some of the suspected criminals on Monday at the Police Command headquarters in Katsina, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, gave the scorecard of the Command’s activities in the last four months, saying in the course of the campaign, a total number of 53 suspected armed robbers, 82 suspected kidnappers, 73 murder suspects and 90 suspected rapists were also arrested.

A total number of 707 suspects were arrested for various offences such as criminal force, intimidation, hard drugs, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, cultism, and inciting disturbance, among other offences.

“The Command has succeeded in rescuing over 171 kidnap victims, neutralised 5 suspected kidnappers and recovered the following exhibits: 4 numbers of AK47 rifles, 6 locally made guns, 517 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, over 600 suspected rustled animals, 12 suspected motorcycles and vehicles 17 suspected stolen phones, 568 sachets of D5 tablets, 180 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 23 packets of exile tablets, 411 packets of remodel tablets and 5 packs of thiazole tablet,” he said.

The PPRO attributed the successes to the immense cooperation and partnership the Command enjoyed from the general public and the media, adding that it has boosted the relative peace and security in the state.

He also thanked the Inspector General of Police, acting IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his undaunted support to the Command, “without which this quantum of successes would not have been achieved.”
