The Labour Party (LP) has expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for their swift intervention in thwarting an attempted break-in at its National Secretariat by suspected vandals and miscreants.

In a statement released by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, the party confirmed that the arrested suspects were cooperating with investigators and providing information that could expose those behind the attack.

“The timely response of the Nigerian Police has restored normalcy at the party secretariat,” Asogwa said,

The party also issued a stern warning to former party leaders allegedly involved in attempts to destabilise its operations, emphasising that acts of “brigandage” would no longer be tolerated.

Asogwa noted that the courts have already ruled on the party’s leadership, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognising Senator Nenadi Usman as acting National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as National Secretary.

“Nigeria is a nation governed by laws, not a banana republic. Those rogue elements creating unnecessary hysteria in the name of the Labour Party must desist forthwith,” he warned.

He further called on security agencies to clamp down on criminal elements using the party’s name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, stressing that such acts of impersonation and fraud would no longer be condoned.

“The Labour Party will not tolerate criminality from any member, no matter how highly placed,” Asogwa added.
