Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expanded his Hope for Digital Education initiative, distributing smart digital learning devices and core textbooks to public secondary school students across Lagos State. The move reinforces Lagos’ position as a national leader in digital learning.

According to a statement by Elias Olawale, Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education on Friday, the initiative forms part of the third pillar of the Governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which prioritizes Education and Technology as key drivers of a 21st-century economy. It also aligns with the National Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing human capital development and educational excellence.

Speaking on the rollout, Governor Sanwo-Olu said, “We are enabling access, opportunity, and a future where every child can learn, grow, and succeed. Through this balanced approach of technological innovation and foundational literacy, the Ministry continues to solidify Lagos State’s position as a benchmark for educational excellence in the Federation.”

Under the leadership of Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the programme has evolved from a pandemic-era response into a structured, statewide reform initiative.

“Our goal is to combine technological innovation with foundational literacy to ensure that Lagos students not only learn but thrive in the 21st century,” Alli-Balogun said.

The newly – distributed Hope Digital Learning Tablets are equipped with Liv.ing data-enabled SIMs and the Roducate platform, providing curriculum-aligned lessons, videos, mock examinations, and life skills resources. Paired with simplified core textbooks, the integrated model ensures students have continuous access to high-quality education that reinforces classroom learning.

The initiative has already yielded results, with public secondary school students achieving an 80 per cent WAEC pass rate in 2021, and even stronger outcomes are expected as the programme expands. Over 600,000 students are set to benefit, promoting inclusive learning while rewarding students, teachers, and parents through performance-based programmes.
