The fiancé of late American social media influencer Ashlee Jenae has stated that she struggled with severe mental health issues and threatened suicide in the weeks leading up to her tragic death.
Ashlee Jenae, whose real name was Ashly Robinson, died by suicide in April during a birthday trip to Tanzania, East Africa. Her death had previously sparked massive speculation on social media, with many followers describing the circumstances as suspicious.
Breaking his silence on the tragedy, her fiancé, Joe McCann, explained that the influencer’s mental health began to deteriorate rapidly in March after a doctor informed her that she might not be able to carry a child.
McCann, who is an investment firm Chief Executive Officer (CEO), stated that the news devastated her and triggered an unfamiliar pattern of panic attacks, erratic behaviour, and public outbursts.
He recounted an incident during a March trip to Oregon where the influencer allegedly tried to jump out of a moving vehicle at high speed and later attempted to walk into oncoming traffic.
According to McCann, the erratic behaviour continued when they arrived at a resort in Zanzibar on April 6. He claimed that after a heated argument in their shared villa, during which she allegedly smashed items and expressed a desire to die, he moved into a separate room.
The influencer was found hanging in her villa shortly after and was rushed to a hospital, where she passed away on April 9. Tanzanian authorities officially ruled her cause of death as suicide.
Addressing social media rumours about their engagement video, McCann clarified that the viral safari proposal seen by her followers was staged for social media, as the couple had already gotten engaged privately in March.
