The managing director/CEO of Transcorp Hotels Plc, Dupe Olusola, has commended the management of LEADERSHIP Newspaper Group Limited for recognising her with an award of the CEO of the Year.

She described the award as a testament of the core values of excellence, execution and enterprise imbibed by the management and staff of the hospitality company.

Olusola stated this in Abuja yesterday, when some members of the management of LEADERSHIP, led by the vice chairman, Mike Okpere, presented her a letter of nomination as CEO of the Year 2023.

According to her, the recognition by LEADERSHIP is a welcome one as it is a great show of appreciation of the good work the leading brand in Nigeria’s hospitality industry, Transcorp Hotels, has been doing.

She said, “We pride ourselves as being leaders in the industry as a result of our hard work, commitment and the fact that as a Group, we really believe in excellence. Excellence, execution and enterprise are very key words, and we believe that in every little space that we are in, whether you are a cleaner or a housekeeper or in the kitchen, you know excellence is what must drive what you are doing.

“And so being recognised and being acknowledged when we did not solicit for it is even more encouraging and it is an opportunity to younger people as well to let them know and let them understand, especially in the day and world of social media and immediate and instant gratification, to understand that the first thing has to be the work that you are doing, putting in the hard work, putting in the time and that when you do it consistently and you do it right, then acknowledgment will come, but that must not be the driving factor.

“I would not be able to stand here and receive the award because no one leader can have all the ideas, no matter how intelligent you are. No leader can start from A to Z every task that needs to be done. So, you need people to get things done. The appreciation goes to all the staff,” she said.

Earlier in a speech, Mr Okpere said Olusola’s selection for the award was informed by her achievements and that of her team in sustaining and raising the bar in Nigeria’s hospitality sector with the brand.

In November last year, LEADERSHIP announced the winners of its coveted annual awards with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu clinching the Person of the Year 2023.

CEO of the Year was jointly clinched by the trio of Olusola; the chief executive officer of Emzor Pharmaceutical Company, Dr. Stella Chinyelu Okoli and the CEO of Marvelous Mike Press, Engr Michael Bayo Akinola.

Several other awardees are also being recognised by the prestigious LEADERSHIP Awards ceremony coming up in March 2024.
