Bayer Leverkusen have moved to secure the long-term future of Nathan Tella after confirming the Nigerian winger has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the BayArena until June 2031.

The new agreement represents a strong show of faith from the Bundesliga champions, extending Tella’s previous deal—originally due to expire in 2028—by a further three years.

Since arriving from Southampton FC in 2023, the 26-year-old has grown into an important figure within Leverkusen’s evolving project, earning recognition for his versatility, work rate and tactical discipline.

Tella made an immediate impact in Germany, playing a key role in one of the most remarkable seasons in the club’s history. In his debut campaign, he contributed to a domestic double as Leverkusen clinched both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal—all while going the entire league season unbeaten.

Although injuries have disrupted the first half of his second season, limiting his time on the pitch, the club’s decision to commit to a long-term extension highlights their confidence in his importance to the squad moving forward.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes praised Tella’s professionalism and adaptability, describing him as a vital member of the team’s core as Leverkusen aim to build on their recent domestic dominance and continue making strides in European competition.
