The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has said the institution has retained its position as the cheapest private university in Nigeria, despite being ranked the second-best private university in the country.

Prof. Gwarzo disclosed this on Thursday during the university’s first convocation dinner organised for the Class of 2025 at its main campus.

He said the university’s affordable tuition policy reflects its commitment to expanding access to quality education while maintaining high academic standards.

According to him, MAAUN remains focused on delivering academic excellence without placing unnecessary financial pressure on parents and guardians.

Prof. Gwarzo also urged parents and guardians to channel their concerns through the university’s management for prompt resolution, rather than resorting to social media.

Earlier, the President of the university, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, described the convocation dinner as a historic milestone, noting that it marked the successful completion of studies by the institution’s first set of graduating students.

The Vice President (Administration), Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, congratulated the graduands and thanked parents, staff and guests for their support, which he said contributed to the university’s success.

In a goodwill message, the Director of the European Centre for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Education, Prof. Mahamouda Salouhou, commended Prof. Gwarzo for investing in education, saying the initiative would inspire more stakeholders to support educational development.

He also congratulated parents for choosing MAAUN, noting that the university has signed memoranda of understanding with reputable universities in the United States.

Also speaking, Prof. Hakeem Ibukunle of Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, United States, congratulated the graduating students and their parents, while praising Prof. Gwarzo’s efforts in advancing education in Nigeria and beyond.

The convocation dinner brought together students, parents, management and invited guests, and featured musical performances and spoken-word presentations to mark the occasion.
