Makinde, Olubadan Tackle Fayose Over Allegation Of Dethronement Plot

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday, dismissed allegations by the former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, that Makinde was plotting to dethrone the Ibadan monarch, describing the claim as unfounded and baseless.

In separate reactions issued in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, both Makinde and Ladoja, through their media aides, dismissed the allegation, insisting that no such plan existed and that there was no rift between the governor and the traditional ruler.

The media aide to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, dismissed the claim as mere speculation, saying there was no indication of any disagreement between the monarch and the state government.

“It will be most unfortunate if it is not a rumour. Though I read it just the way you read it online. I don’t see the cause of friction between the governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said.

Also responding, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the state government had never considered such a move, describing the allegation as politically motivated propaganda.

“By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter,” Oyelade said.

“Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“There has to be a credible motive for every government action, and this, coming from the unofficial spokesman of our opponents, is better put in the refuse dump where it belongs.

“Desperate politics foists thoughtless propaganda and reduces democracy into a joke,” he added.

LEADERSHIP reports that Fayose, in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, alleged that Makinde was plotting the removal of Ladoja as Olubadan.

“I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja,” Fayose wrote.

“The plot is to commence this week, with a government query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations.”
