The wife of the Oyo State governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, has charged nursing mothers and all mothers in the state to ensure they immunise their babies and breastfeed them regularly to prevent infant mortality.
Makinde, who gave the charge while welcoming the first babies in 2025 at Ring-Road State Hospital, Oni and Sons Children’s Hospital, and Oojo Primary Health Care Center, Oojo, urged nursing mothers to breastfeed their babies regularly because breast milk contains all the nutrients needed to prevent the babies from attacking epidemic diseases.
She admonished nursing mothers to go to the referred hospital whenever they were referred, noting that there was a reason why doctors referred patients.
Mrs Makinde, however, charged all nurses and midwives in the state not to hide any information about expectant and nursing mothers’ antenatal and postnatal days that they needed.
She urged expectant mothers not to skip their Prenatal visits and nursing mothers not to skip their Post-Natal visits and to ensure they make use of the information given to them by nurses and midwives, stressing that they are life savers.
In separate remarks, the nursing mothers expressed their appreciation to the wife of the Oyo State governor for her kind gesture toward them and their families.
They promised to abide by all the information and instructions given to them to their children from infant mortality.
The first baby was a female and was born at 12:40 a.m., weighing 2.6kg, at Oojo Primary Care Centre, Oojo, to Mrs Olanimimo Kabirat; the second baby was a male and was born at Ring-Road State Hospital at 1:45 a.m., weighing 3.1 kg, to Mrs. Rukayat Adeleke; and the third baby was also a female and was born at Our Lady of Apostles, Oluyoro hospital, Ibadan, at 6:35 a.m., weighing 3.5kg to Mrs Safiyat Lawal.
