Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, has emerged as the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
He was elected by delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states during the Quadrennial Delegate Conference of the union held at the zonal secretariat of the union in Osogbo, Osun State on Saturday.
The conference was monitored by Aliyu Issa-Ore, the acting National President of the union, who emphasized that the union’s constitution stipulates that the zone, when its turn comes, must produce the president and present the elected candidate to the National Secretariat.
Represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, it was confirmed that the Southwest zone had fully adhered to the constitution in electing Oluomo as the President.
Also elected were Tajudeen Agbede as Vice President for the Southwest and Akeem Adeosun as a trustee from the zone.
In his inaugural speech, Akinsanya called for peace and unity within the union saying “I have forgiven all those who wronged me, and I ask for forgiveness from those I have wronged,”
“This is our union, and we must remain committed to its preservation. We will not allow anyone to undermine our livelihood,” he added.
