The minister of sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh, yesterday undertook an inspection tour of the Nigeria Sports Hall of Fame.

The minister was led by the president of the Nigeria Sports Hall of Fame, Mr Nicholas Kwanta, through the tour.

The Sports Hall of Fame was established to celebrate Nigerian sports legends and icons with outstanding records of success in their various careers. It also honours individuals who have contributed to sports development in the country through philanthropism.

Prior to the tour, Senator Enoh, in a press release signed by his media aide Kola Daniel, called for a comprehensive briefing to ascertain if the vision of the Hall of Fame is expansive enough to cover the sports legacies of Nigeria and Nigerians.

He said recognition brings honour, motivates athletes, and inspires budding talents to do more, saying sports legacies and history must be preserved and held in esteem, as it is a significant heritage for the nation at large.

The Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2019 by the African Image Ventures in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

The partnership has also birthed the Nigerian Sports Book of Records from 1884, a comprehensive sports reference and historical compendium which chronicles the achievements of great Nigerian sports men and women that blazed the trail in their sports, entrenching Nigeria’s name on the global stage. It also captures Nigeria’s participation in all international tournaments.
