Former senior special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Aliyu Audu, has said that his resignation from the Tinubu-led administration was influenced by the president’s one-party state comment regarding the mass defection of opposition party members to the ruling party.

The Tinubu-led government is accused of allegedly prioritising revenge over national unity and is claimed to have strayed from the promises made during the campaign.

Audu made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He stressed the president’s political alliance with the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as once necessary but now questionable.

He said, “Tinubu resisted the dominance of the Southwest in the Obasanjo era, now repeating similar political tactics. My decision to leave the administration was influenced by his recent comments about building a one-party state.”

Audu expressed his unwavering resolve to work towards Tinubu’s removal in 2027, stating that he couldn’t in good conscience remain in his government while plotting his removal. That a leader chosen by the people would be reinstated.

“The importance of leadership chosen by the people, not imposed, is the best for democratic sustainability and dividends. It wouldn’t be a case of “Emi lo kan” (it’s my turn), but rather “Gbogbo wa lo kan” (it’s everyone’s turn),” he said.
