This was revealed at a one-day sensitization workshop held at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Katsina, bringing together stakeholders from the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) and other entrepreneurs in the state.

The workshop aimed to address public health concerns linked to substandard products, particularly packaged water.

State coordinator,  NAFDAC, Pharm. Musa Momodu Ikhazobor, emphasized the agency’s crucial role in regulating and controlling the production, distribution, and sale of regulated products.

To combat waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid, Ikhazobor stressed the need to improve the quality and safety of packaged water.

He cited a recent cholera outbreak linked to contaminated tiger nut drink as a stark reminder of the risks posed by poor hygiene and substandard products.

The workshop empowered entrepreneurs with the knowledge to adhere to regulatory standards and ensure the production of safe, quality products. NAFDAC has introduced measures to ease the challenges faced by MSMEs in Katsina State, including simplified registration processes, financial incentives, support services, and collaborative engagement.

Ikhazobor appealed to stakeholders to collaborate with NAFDAC to prioritize consumer safety and build public trust in their products. He emphasized that meeting regulatory standards is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility for entrepreneurs.

The workshop served as a platform for entrepreneurs to engage with NAFDAC officials, gain insights into regulatory requirements, and discuss practical solutions to challenges in the manufacturing and distribution sectors.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting MSMEs while ensuring the safety and quality of regulated products in the market.

In his closing remarks, Ikhazobor expressed optimism that the workshop would catalyze positive change in the state’s business environment. He encouraged stakeholders to work together to protect the health of citizens and contribute to the sustainable growth of their businesses.
