Stakeholders in Nasarawa State have called on the Inspector-General of Police to strengthen the State Police Command with additional manpower, operational vehicles, and logistical support, citing the need to sustain gains recorded in the fight against crime.
The stakeholders advanced similar calls to strengthen the activities of other security agencies in the state.
The appeal was made during a stakeholder engagement visit by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police to Lafia, where traditional leaders and other participants reviewed the state’s security situation.
Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Lafia, the Madakin Lafia, Alhaji Isyaka Dauda, commended the Nigeria Police Force for maintaining peace across the state. He revealed that the Emirate Council complements police efforts by holding weekly security meetings with traditional rulers from across Nasarawa to assess emerging threats and design local responses.
“The Emirate Council remains committed to supporting security agencies,” Alhaji Dauda said. “These weekly meetings allow us to deliberate on challenges and develop community-driven solutions.”
Other stakeholders at the event lauded the leadership of IGP Olatunji Disu and the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, for the “significant improvement” in security across the state.
They stressed, however, that more resources are needed to consolidate progress.
“We appeal to the IGP to further support the Command with additional manpower, operational vehicles, and other logistical resources,” the stakeholders said. “This will enhance the Command’s capacity to effectively tackle crime and respond to security challenges.”
CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed assured that the command would continue to implement the directives from the IGP and the Coordinating DIG.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening community policing and protecting lives and property across the state.
