House of Representatives Committee on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commended the commission for keeping to its mandate.
Committee Chairman, Usman Zanna, made the commendation on Friday at the end of the committee’s oversight visit to NEDC’s projects in Bauchi, assuring that the committee would facilitate more legislative actions that would strengthen the activities of the commission for effective service delivery.
“Once again we want to commend the North East Development Commission for the wonderful jobs in the zone. These are projects that touches on the lives of the people. The NEDC and its managing director are working seamlessly in the six states constituting its catchment area,” he said.
The lawmaker urged the commission to collaborate with the House to look for more funding for people-oriented projects from international donors and government agencies to provide more dividends of democracy for the people.
“I will ask the managing director and the management team of the NEDC to collaborate with the House to look for more funding outside the government revenue that is coming, we have to think out of the box for more funding,” Zanna said.
Earlier, while conducting the committee round the Mega Housing Estate the commission is constructing in Bauchi, the managing director/CEO, Mohammed G. Alkali, assured that they were putting finishing touches to the project.
Projects inspected include the ongoing 53km Kirfi-Gombe Abba road linking Bauchi and Gombe State, three bridges at Lalajanga, Bara and Tashan Turmi along Bauchi to Gombe highway, NEDC Mega School, Bauchi, ICT Training Center – Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi, and the new NEDC Bauchi office.
