Alumni of the 27 Short Service Combatant Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy have marked their 40th anniversary, calling for sustained unity, good health, and stronger camaraderie among members.

The president, retired Maj.-Gen. Okechukwu Ugo, made the call during the group’s 40th reunion and anniversary celebration held in Abuja on Saturday.

Ugo expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to celebrate the milestone, noting that the last reunion was held in 2022 at the National Defence College.

According to him, the gathering provided an opportunity for members to reconnect, reflect on shared experiences, and celebrate decades of service to the nation.

He also paid tribute to deceased colleagues and prayed for members facing health challenges, urging continued support for one another.

The association president said activities lined up for the event included health management lectures, elections of new executives, and a gala night.

He stressed the importance of the health lectures, particularly on geriatrics, urging members to remain open to learning for improved wellbeing.

According to him, the wives of members also visited an orphanage in Kuje to provide humanitarian support to less privileged children.

Ugo described the gesture as a demonstration of compassion and social responsibility, in line with the values of the association.

On leadership transition, he said the current executives would step aside to allow new leaders to take over, expressing confidence in a free and credible electoral process.

The president added that the gala night would provide an opportunity for members to relax and celebrate their shared journey.

He encouraged members to make the most of the reunion and sustain the bond that had kept the group together over the years.

The reunion featured a health awareness lecture titled: “Geriatric Health: Mind and Body,” delivered by Prof. Ehiz Odigie-Okpataku and Dr. Okiobeya Davidson.
