Fans of Harry Potter, the beloved six-part book series by British author J.K Rowling, are in for a fantastic time this Christmas as HBO Max is set to release the series adaptation of the first book, ‘Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone’ in December 2026.
The streaming app released the official trailer of the ‘Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone’ series on March 25, 2026, which racked up 903,858 views within two hours.
The first of the six-book series, ‘Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone’, introduces the main character Harry Potter, the boy with the scar, who is destined to fight ‘he who must not be named’ to save the Hogwarts wizardry school from his reign of terror centred on purging the magical institute from mudbloods and half-breeds.
The trailer shows a young Harry being maltreated by his aunt Petunia at home and bullied at school. Until he receives a letter that changes his life, he is whisked into the magical world of Hogwarts, where true friendship, self-discovery, and destiny await.
The series is nostalgic for millennials and some Gen Zers who have read the books and watched the seven-part film franchise starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. While they are struggling to let go of the OG actors, a glimpse of the scenes, characters, and cinematography has them excited to see the series adaptation of the book.
In fact, many had described the series as ‘book accurate’, pointing out certain scenes and actions in the book that didn’t make it to the film franchise.
“Petunia cutting the hair … That’s the details we wanted!” @thatvandmoviequeen
“Crazy how I keep hearing the dialogues in my head from the OG actors’ voices,” @ishaaaa
Harry is bullied by Dudley at school when he ends up on the roof. Like this is for the book fans,” @LM-il5vk
“I’m gonna miss John Williams’ score. He was the heart and soul of the films,” @MaxToThePower
“This looks so book accurate!” @Shrekley
“They showed a lot more than I expected. The set looks insane,” @Shadow9841
Moreover, the series will serve as a way to introduce Gen Alphas to the world of Harry and his friends, as well as to fantasy and magical realism literature.
‘Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone’ is executive-produced and directed by Mark Mylod with Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner. It stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
It also has John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Finch, and Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinius Quirrell.
