The new Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Lagos, CP Eloho Okpoziakpo, has charged officers and men of the unit to rededicate themselves to professionalism, diligence and strict adherence to the rule of law.

CP Okpoziakpo gave the charge on Tuesday during his maiden briefing at the Unit headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos, to mark his resumption of office as the 34th Commissioner of Police of PSFU Lagos.

He added that under his leadership, and in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, any act of indiscipline or lack of professionalism by police operatives in the Unit will not be tolerated.

The CP called on the general public and all stakeholders to support the fight against all forms of crime, assuring that fraud-related offences would be tackled with strict professionalism.

He further urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, while assuring them of the Unit’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and serving with integrity.

“Discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command. Professionalism, respect for human dignity, and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times.

“I enjoin all officers and men to treat members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and the utmost respect. We must remain professional in the discharge of our duties. Respect, as they say, is reciprocal.

“Therefore, I also urge members of the public to engage with the police and other security agencies with civility and mutual respect. See us as partners and work hand in hand with us in our shared responsibility of maintaining law and order,” he stated.

Reinforcing his stance, Okpoziakpo added: “Any officer found wanting in the discharge of their duties will face decisive disciplinary action. Accountability and transparency will be the cornerstone of this administration in line with the mandate of the IGP.

“We will strengthen internal monitoring mechanisms to ensure that our operations are intelligence-driven, lawful, and effective in combating fraud and related crimes.

“Our mandate is clear, to protect citizens, safeguard economic activities and ensure that perpetrators of financial crimes are brought to justice without fear or favour.”

The CP also expressed gratitude to the IGP for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) were already yielding positive results across the country.

“I am deeply honoured by the trust placed in me by the Inspector-General of Police. The reforms being implemented are repositioning the Force for greater efficiency and we will key fully into this vision at the PSFU.

“We will build a Unit that is responsive, accountable, and respected for its professionalism in handling complex financial and other related crimes,” CP Okpoziakpo added.
