Niger CJ Orders Arrest Of Prosecutor For Remanding Man With Fake FIR

In her ongoing tour of correctional centers, the Niger State Chief Judge, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, has ordered the arrest and removal of a Police Prosecutor from the Magistrate Court in Gauraka, Tafa local government area of the State for unlawfully incarcerating one Suleiman Musa with fake First Information Report (FIR).

The Prosecutor, from the preliminary findings, incarcerated Musa for two months at the Suleja Correctional Center on an FIR unknown to the presiding Magistrate, suggesting that the FIR was fake and the remand order was not given by the presiding Magistrate.

Justice Halima Abdulmalik, who examined the cases of awaiting trial inmates discovered that the FIR on which the said Musa was remanded was not signed by the presiding Magistrate as further findings revealed that the prosecutor acted wrongly.

Consequently, the Chief Judge ordered for the Prosecutor’s arrest and further investigation of the matter.
