Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has assured the people of Kagara Emirate that his administration would do everything possible to bring normalcy to every part of the state ravaged by insecurity, especially internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return to their homes.
The governor who formally presented the staff of office to the Emir of Kagara, Mallam Ahmed Garba Gunna, Attahiru II, at the weekend in Kagara, urged the people to maintain relative peace in the emirate after several bandits’ attacks.
He said it was a new era in the emirate and the people should embrace it and shun acts that would endanger the relative peace.
Sani Bello said the feat was achieved because of the synergy between the Emir and the local government chairman and enjoined the people to give their support to the Emir to discharge his duties and succeed in office.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the chairman of the Niger State Traditional Council of Chiefs and the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, prayed for God’s wisdom for the emir and to lead his subjects justly.
In his acceptance speech, Gunna promised to uphold the oath of office and the allegiance he made.
The emir thanked the governor for not interfering in the selection process which culminated in his ascension to the throne.
He also thanked all the traditional rulers and all those that contributed in many ways to ensure the success of the ceremony.
Members of the Niger State Traditional Council, Emirs of Bichi, Lafiagi, Patigi, and some members of the Nasarawa State Traditional Council were among other dignitaries who attended the event.
Gunna ascended the throne in April last year following the demise of the first emir, Alhaji Salihu Tanko in March 2021.
