Nigeria Hold 26th Spot In Latest FIFA Rankings, Remain Africa’s Fourth-Best Team

Nigeria have retained their position as the 26th-ranked team in the world in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking released following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Super Eagles also remain fourth in Africa, behind continental leaders Morocco, who climbed to sixth in the world, Senegal, and Egypt.

The latest rankings were heavily influenced by performances at the expanded 48-team World Cup, with newly crowned champions Spain reclaiming the world number one position after defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final. Argentina slipped to second, while Brazil moved up to fifth.

Among African nations, Morocco strengthened their status as the continent’s highest-ranked side after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, while Egypt climbed five places to 24th globally. Ghana also made notable progress, rising eight places to 65th, while DR Congo advanced to 41st and South Africa climbed to 54th.

Tunisia, however, suffered a significant setback, dropping 12 places to 57th after an early World Cup exit.

Despite missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Nigeria remain one of Africa’s leading football nations, sitting behind only Morocco, Senegal and Egypt in the continental standings as attention shifts to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the qualification campaign for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
