National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a nationwide civic education campaign to raise public awareness on key national issues, including government policies, national values, security, and disaster preparedness.

At a press conference in Abuja, NOA director-general Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu announced that the two-week campaign will span all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), covering the country’s 774 local government areas.

Issa-Onilu described the initiative as a “coordinated national awakening” focused on five core areas: promoting government policies, enhancing civic responsibility, strengthening national values, encouraging disaster readiness, and boosting security awareness.

Citing recent flood warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), he urged citizens to take proactive measures, such as clearing drains, heeding relocation advice, and staying alert to early warning systems.

“To effectively reach citizens, the campaign will leverage multiple platforms — including community outreach in schools, markets, transport hubs, and religious centres. Press briefings will be held in each state, and educational materials will be distributed in English and major Nigerian languages,” he said.
He added that the agency will also make use of radio, television, social media, and toll-free lines to spread its message and gather public feedback.

“This campaign can only succeed with your participation,” Issa-Onilu said. “Let’s prepare for emergencies, work with security agencies, celebrate responsibly, and pass on our national values to future generations.”
He also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, student unions, and the media to support the campaign and help embed its core messages nationwide.

“Together, we can turn our values into everyday actions,” he added.
