The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, has announced the deployment of 4,000 personnel across the FCT in preparation for the upcoming Eid-Fitr celebrations.

This extensive deployment is aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property, as well as the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the FCT and surrounding areas before, during, and after the festivities.

Personnel will be deployed from specialised units, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adkasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE), and Counter-Terrorism.

He said there will also be a significant presence at vulnerable locations and soft targets such as prayer grounds, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, city gates, the Three Arms Zone, government buildings, diplomatic offices, and critical national infrastructure.

The FCT Commandant added that to enhance proactivity, undercover operatives have been assigned to conduct covert operations and surveillance, while security in black spots like uncompleted buildings harbouring criminals is also being reinforced.

The statement said Odumosu issued directives to all area commanders and divisional officers to ensure full readiness in their areas, stressing the importance of visible presence in preventing any security breaches. “All hands must be on deck; I will not tolerate any breaches. Ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” he emphasised.

He urged officers to maintain professionalism, collaborate with other security agencies, and adhere to the rules of engagement, avoiding harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge. Odumosu reassured FCT residents of a safe and secure celebration, ensuring a protected environment throughout the period.

The Commandant also called on FCT residents to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and cooperate with security agencies. “My personnel are ready to ensure you have a peaceful celebration, and you also have a role to play by being proactive,” he said.

Odumosu warned criminals and vandals to avoid critical national assets, stating that NSCDC covert officers are stationed throughout the city and will take swift action against offenders.
