The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has inaugurated the Adamawa Online Media Chapel and the NAS FM Chapel at the NUJ Press Centre in Yola.

The inauguration ceremony attracted government officials, media executives and journalists from various media organisations across the state.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the NUJ Adamawa State Council, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi, congratulated members of the newly inaugurated chapels and urged them to uphold the ethics and professionalism of journalism.

The union also inaugurated seven executive officers to lead the two chapels for a three-year tenure in line with the NUJ Constitution.

For the Adamawa Online Media Chapel, Vangawa Bolgent of The Gazette News Nigeria was sworn in as chairman, Lucy Musa of Insight News as secretary, and Joy Dennis of The Guardian News Nigeria as treasurer.

For the NAS FM Chapel, Dominic Yohanna emerged as chairman, while Sa’adatu Abubakar was sworn in as secretary, Nafisat Hassan Belel as assistant secretary, Bello Abdullahi as treasurer, Peace Francis Danck as financial secretary, and Polycarp Amough as auditor.

The Adamawa State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Leader Leneke, congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and commended the NUJ leadership in the state for promoting democracy and responsible journalism.

He urged journalists, particularly members of the Online Media Chapel, to uphold professional standards by ensuring that reports are properly verified before publication.

Representing the NUJ National President, Comrade Zare Baba commended the Adamawa Online Media Chapel for meeting all constitutional requirements for its inauguration and urged members to complement the work of traditional media rather than view themselves as competitors.

He also congratulated members of the NAS FM Chapel, describing its inauguration as long overdue.

The Adamawa State Police Command, represented by ASP Kadiri Amos on behalf of the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yahaya Nguroje, congratulated both chapels and reaffirmed the command’s partnership with the media in the state.

Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to the Adamawa State governor, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, advised members of the newly inaugurated chapels, particularly the Online Media Chapel, to prioritise accuracy and verification in their reports, stressing the distinction between professional journalism and unverified social media content.

The event ended with goodwill messages from other dignitaries, who congratulated the newly inaugurated executives of both chapels and wished them a successful tenure.
