Former President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived in Minna yesterday and held a closed-door meeting at the Hilltop Residence of former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).
Obasanjo arrived in Minna at about 4.15 p.m. aboard chartered airline 5N CDY from Benin, where he had gone to felicitate with the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, on his 90th birthday.
The former president, dressed in white with green lace and a white cap, was awaited by some aides from Uphill, who immediately drove him to the IBB residence.
He arrived with a few aides, and it was learned from airport staff, who preferred to remain anonymous, that he had been waiting since the morning.
It was further learned that at General Babangida’s residence, another former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), and former National Security Adviser (NSA) General Aliyu Gusau (rtd) were also waiting for the former President.
It was unclear whether Abdulsalami and Gusau’s visit, made by road from Abuja to Minna, was a coincidence or part of a special meeting regarding the state of the nation.
A source said, “It will be tough to say it was a coincidence. You cannot have such a calibre of people in a room without having significant issues on the table for deliberation.”
“It is not a coincidence because Generals Abdulsalami and Gusau have been at the house for over four hours since Obasanjo was expected at the airport,” the source hinted.
Attempts to access the IBB residence proved unsuccessful, as heavy security operatives prevented anyone from entering.
