Kogi State governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has donated 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance traffic management and emergency response operations on highways across the state.

The governor also elevated his Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Dr Suberu Yusuf-John, to the position of Special Adviser in recognition of his dedication and commitment to promoting road safety initiatives in Kogi State.

Governor Ododo made the announcements during his investiture as the Grand Patron of the FRSC Special Marshals at the Strategic Stakeholders’ Conference on Road Safety held in Lokoja.

Commending the FRSC for its commitment to saving lives on Nigerian roads, the governor described the honour as a motivation to intensify efforts towards improving road safety and protecting motorists and other road users.

He called for stronger collaboration among governments, transport operators, and other stakeholders to reduce road crashes and safeguard lives across the country.

According to him, Kogi State’s strategic location as the gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria places enormous pressure on its road network, making effective traffic management and road safety interventions critical to national socio-economic activities.

Governor Ododo assured the FRSC leadership that the requests presented to the state government would receive favourable consideration.

Presenting the electric patrol motorcycles, he said the equipment would significantly strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity, improve emergency response, and enhance highway patrol operations.

“I hereby dedicate my investiture as Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the FRSC to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The honour bestowed on me reflects the President’s vision of promoting safer roads and protecting the lives of Nigerians,” the governor said.

Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, appealed to the Kogi State Government to revive motor parks across the state to improve traffic management and road transport coordination.

He commended Governor Ododo for the donation of the electric patrol motorcycles, describing the gesture as a major boost to the Corps’ operational capacity and its efforts to improve road safety across the country.

The Corps Marshal also praised the promotion of Dr. Yusuf-John, noting that it would further strengthen road safety advocacy and coordination in Kogi State.
