Ogun Wants Own Appeal Court Division

The Ogun State government has called for the establishment of a Division of the Court of Appeal in the State to ensure swift justice delivery and ease the workload of judges in the Ibadan Division of the Appellate Court.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made the call during a meeting with the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, in his office in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Thursday.

The governor, who disclosed this on his verified Facebook page, said the Ogun State government was pleased that Justice Dongban-Mensem acknowledged the workload challenges faced by the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal and assured that steps would be taken to address the issue.

Governor Abiodun wrote: “We advocated for the establishment of the Ogun Division of the Court of Appeal to ensure swift justice delivery in the state. During our meeting with the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, we emphasised the need for this division to ease the workload of judges in the Ibadan Division.

“We are grateful for the President’s efforts in expediting appeals through the decongestion initiative. Throughout the meeting, we underscored the importance of timely justice delivery and lauded the state judiciary for their support in implementing reforms and establishing a special court for cultism cases.

“We are pleased that Justice Dongban-Mensem acknowledged the workload challenges faced by the Ibadan Division and assured us that steps would be taken to address the issue. Additionally, she commended our administration for its transformation efforts and collaboration with the judiciary, which brings us immense satisfaction.”
