A renowned African traditional medicine practitioner in Anambra State, Prophet Ramas Okoye-Azuzu, has advised the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to establish a state traditional medicine practitioners’ council to help sanitise the menace of money-making ritual practice—popularly called “Okeite” in Igbo parlance—and other diabolical practices.

The Nri, Anaocha local government area-based native doctor also praised the governor for the government’s recent security initiative, which culminated in the governor signing into law the state’s Homeland Security Law 2024 and launching operation “Udo Ga Achi” and its squad “Agunechemba.”

Prophet Azuzu who spoke to newsmen at his Akamkpisi country home yesterday said Soludo government had been transforming the state into an “African-Dubai” as he promised during his campaigns.

He referenced various road constructions the government had done in Awka, the state capital, Okpoko in the riverine Ogbaru local government area; Uga, in Aguata local government area and dual carriageway currently being done from Amawbia -Nise-Agulu-Ekwulobia, other infrastructural development and declared ” So, I’m giving the government of Soludo 97%”.

He, however, stated that Soludo overlooked the area of security and lamented that the state has witnessed a high wave of insecurity, including kidnapping and armed robbery, stating, “People have not been sleeping with their two eyes closed.ā€

Prophet Azuzu therefore described the launching of the state security initiative code-named “Udo Ga Achi ” as a welcome development, but, urged the governor to put in place an effective monitoring policy to make sure that the operatives do not indulge in abuse of powers.

The native doctor further advised that the operatives of the Agunechemba should not be allowed to cover their faces so that they could be easily identified by members of the public and could be identified whenever they indulged in abuse of power.

He also urged the governor to ensure that a proper and effective policy was initiated to fish out native doctors who are behind money-ritual and other diabolical practices to weed them out from the state.

He called for the establishment of traditional medicine practitioners’ council that would be charged with the responsibility of registration of genuine African traditional medicine practitioners, and, for issuance of certificate of government recognition to such so as to help government detect those involved in diabolical practices.

He advised against any attempt by the state government to abolish traditional medicine practice, arguing that genuine African native doctors abhors money -rituals, Okeite and such evil practices.
