With just 25 days remaining until kick-off, excitement is mounting for one of Africa’s most anticipated football events of 2025: a legends showdown featuring African icons led by Jay-Jay Okocha and Barcelona legends spearheaded by Ronaldinho, scheduled for 25 October at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Organised by the Attom Foundation in partnership with ZMB Homes and WGI Sports, the Champions Cup clash will see a Barcelona Legends side, captained by Ronaldinho, take on an Africa Legends team led by Okocha, featuring stars like Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Alex Song, among others. The match is set to kick off at 3:00 p.m. local time, uniting some of football’s most celebrated legends in Abuja, Nigeria.
In addition to the thrilling football action, proceeds from the event will support girl-child empowerment initiatives in Nigeria.
While Okocha and Ronaldinho played together at Paris Saint-Germain from 2001 to 2003, their relationship was more mentor-mentee than rivalry, with Okocha helping the young Brazilian adapt to European football.
Over time, their relationship has evolved into one of mutual respect, rivalry, and nostalgia. Despite donning the same colours in Paris, they competed for the title of the world’s most expressive footballers, a rivalry that will be reignited in Abuja.
Confirmed names for the Barcelona Legends alongside Ronaldinho include Ludovic Giuly, Javier Saviola, Jesús Angoy, Marc Valiente, Fernando Navarro, Roberto Trashorras, Samuel Okunowo, and more.
The Africa Legends squad will feature a strong line-up, including Okocha, Kanu, Adebayor, Alex Song, and others.
Spectators can look forward to meeting the legends, enjoying various attractions, and participating in a charitable event that merges sport and social impact
