The Edo State government has assured the people of the state that individuals whose lands or properties were illegally taken or destroyed are to be compensated by the present administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The government said it is fully aware that the previous government of former Governor Godwin Obaseki acquired some community lands and properties without compensation.
The attorney general of the state and commissioner for justice, Hon Samson Osagie , stated this at Evboikole in the Uhumwode local government area of Edo State during a thank-you party for the people of Uhumwode in appreciation of their support.
Osagie said the government is already correcting wrongs to ensure harmony in the state. According to him, “there are so many landed properties of Edo citizens who have worked hard and invested in the state that were forcefully acquired without compensation.
“This administration is going to make sure that property owners are compensated, while those that need to be released will be released to their owners.”
Continuing, Osagie assured the people that the present administration would look into all the complaints and ensure that those who need to be compensated get what is due to them, as no one would be left unattended.
He stated that every Edo person would get justice in the state, adding, “That is not to say that if there are things the government wants to take responsibility, that government will not do it.
“All lawsuits that are capable of derailing the government will be thoroughly handled by my ministry so as to prevent any distractions.
“My ministry will provide the legal advice to the governor to ensure governance has a human face where there will be no oppression and victimization in the state.”
Also, speaking during the thank you party, the member representing Uhumwode and Orhionmwon constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Billy Osawaru, told the people of Uhumwode to forget the past and work together to make the local government grow. He promised to ensure that what is due to Uhumwode gets to them.
Meanwhile, Hon Washington Osifo appealed to the people of Uhumwode to unite and make the local government great.
