Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

Declaring him the candidate of the party after the count of ballots, the secretary of the Osun governorship primary of the Accord Party, Abdulazeez Salahudeen, who disclosed that 150 delegates voted in the election, said Governor Adeleke polled 145 votes, while five votes were invalid.

Earlier, the screening committee of the party, led by Elder Ibe Thankgod, had screened and cleared Adeleke as the sole contestant for its governorship primary, which was held at Osogbo, the Osun state capital, on Wednesday.

The chairman of the committee, who is also the National Organising Secretary of the party, Elder Ibe Thankgod, stated that the governor fulfilled all the requisite requirements for nomination and participation in the primary.

During the voting, five delegates from each of the 30 local government areas of the state that had been previously screened voted in the election, conducted under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The National Chairman of the party, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, who handed over the certificate of return to Governor Ademola Adeleke, stated that the primary has confirmed Accord as a party committed to due process and internal democracy.

He described the emergence of Governor Adeleke as divine, even as he expressed strong optimism that Governor Adeleke will resoundingly win his re-election in 2026.
