Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has described education as a veritable tool for growth, saying education will continue to be the anchor of the development agenda of the state in a quest to put it on a sound footing.
He stated this in Osogbo at the official flag off of the distribution of instructional materials and sports equipment for the use of pupils/students of public primary and Junior Secondary Schools across the State.
Governor Oyetola at the programme which also witnessed the distribution of 10 wheelchairs for the use of pupils of Schools for Special Needs in the state was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji.
According to him, the occasion is in furtherance of his administration’s resolve to stop at nothing at giving the children of the state the best of education that will not only stand the test of time but also enable them to compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world.
He noted with satisfaction that in the last four years, his administration had renovated many schools in addition to providing educational materials and equipment just as training and re-training of teachers to improve their performance had not been put at bay.
Oyetola, however, appealed to various stakeholders in the education sector, including parents, teachers, old students’ associations and the media to compliment the government’s efforts in giving the best education to children in Osun.
On the part of the students, he urged them to reciprocate the many privileges being accorded them by striving at all times to put in their best to justify the huge investment of government on them.
Earlier, the executive secretary, Osun SUBEB, Mr. Adeoye Bakare, expressed appreciation at the gesture of Governor Oyetola in lifting the standard of education in Osun to greater heights.
