The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 general elections, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has shared his position on how to address the controversies surrounding the 110km Ibadan Circular Road.

Alli assured that within 48 hours of the people of Oyo State giving him the mandate to lead, he would set up a committee to conduct a holistic assessment of the project, considering the controversies surrounding it, including allegations of land grabbing, unfair compensation for property owners, among others.

Alli, who recently held “A Day with BSA” with journalists under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, said the Committee on the Circular Road would appropriately advise the government on the way forward.

He assured property owners along the Circular Road that they would receive relief and that his administration would be fair and just to everyone. Senator Alli said resolving the issues surrounding the proposed setback for the ongoing Circular Road project would require a sincere and honest assessment.

“I am aware that many residents along the Ibadan Circular Road have lost their properties, including residential buildings, schools, shops, churches, mosques, and undeveloped plots of land. Most frighteningly, many have also lost their lives.

“I am of the firm view that our state must be developed. The Circular Road project is not a bad idea; in fact, it is a welcome development and long overdue. However, no development is worth the life of a single citizen of Oyo State.

“A project of such magnitude will definitely affect certain properties, but decisions must be made to protect the citizens.

“I know the extent to which things have gone bad in those areas, but I am trying to be measured in my opinion on those issues for now because I am not ready to play politics with such a sensitive matter. As I said, those who require help will get it, and those who require justice will get it.

“Residents of Oyo State, including those living along the Circular Road, must first be alive before they can enjoy the benefits of the development the government is bringing to the area, and we will ensure that, by the grace of Allah. Dead or bedridden citizens cannot enjoy the benefits of good road infrastructure,” Alli said.
