The Oyo State Police Command has refuted reports claiming the Chairman of the Oyo State Tipper, Lorry, and Quarry Park Management System, Alhaji Akeem Akintola, was kidnapped on Saturday.
Police spokesman SP Adewale Osifeso clarified that Akintola, popularly known as “Kuso,” was not abducted by gunmen but actually arrested by police officers.
He identified the charges against Akintola as criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Earlier reports circulating on both mainstream and social media platforms had claimed gunmen kidnapped Akintola from his residence in Ibadan on Saturday.
“The Police wish to clarify the events surrounding the alleged abduction of Alhaji Akeem Akintola and another person, Segun (surname yet unknown), both members of the Oyo State Park Management System,” Osifeso stated.
“The duo was invited by intelligence operatives from Force Headquarters, Abuja, who were on lawful duty, in connection with their alleged involvement in criminal activities,” he continued, specifying the alleged offenses as criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Osifeso said that the matter is currently under investigation and further updates will be provided publicly as they become available.
