The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened yesterday as suspected political thugs invaded and attacked the local government congresses of the faction of party loyal to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, in Oyo State.

There are two factions of the party in the state. While one is loyal to Wike, the other one is loyal to the state governor, Seyi Makinde.

The local government congresses of the Wike-led faction were billed to take place yesterday.

It was, however, learnt that some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs, went to attack the members while the congresses were going on.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that about 10 people attacked were seriously wounded even as many vehicles were vandalised.

When contacted, the chairman of the faction loyal to Wike, Prof Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the incident.

Akinoso in a telephone conversation noted that many people have been attacked.

He also disclosed that many vehicles have been vandalised while about ten people have been attacked.

He said, “Our local government congresses were attacked across Oyo State; Ibadan North, Ogbomoso South, Igboora (Ibarapa Central) Akinyele. About 10 people across the state.”

Confirming the incident, former deputy governor and chieftain of the party, Barr Hazeem Gbolarumi said the political thugs came in 15 buses into his house and destroyed eight vehicles.

He said, “We saw them. They came in 15 buses when the congress was going on and attacked us and destroyed about eight vehicles.”
